He did it! FitMyFoot engineer, Chris Bellamy finished the Boston Marathon today with a final time of 02:59:36, after running the entire race in FitMyFoot Sandals. Not only did he run the entire 26.2 miles in flip flops, he did it in temperatures of 33°F (0°C) and heavy downpour.
A few members of #TeamFitMyFoot traveled with him to Boston to cheer him on and meet him at the finish line, officially dubbing his FitMyFoots as the #SubThreeSandal.
“The sandals felt really really good. They didn’t hurt the entire way. They were beautiful. They performed fantastically. And I was just able to run a really happy race and make some friends.”
Chris's FitMyFoots also had some unexpected benefits...
“They were great at the beginning of the race, because everyone else was having to change shoes, and I could just walk through the mud in my sandals. Then when it rained, it just washed my feet off.”

So what does a #SubThreeSandal look like after a marathon in the rain? Still in perfect shape!
This race comes after Chris made a bet with friends that he'd run a marathon in FitMyFoot Sandals if FitMyFoot raised over $500k on Kickstarter. "When everyone said that our sandal was impossible, I bet we could do it, and that I'd run a marathon in them."
FitMyFoot Sandals are made for you using foot measurements taken from the FitMyFoot app. We digitally map your feet using more than 200 points to understand arch contours, foot length, width and volume, and toe spacing. We then 3D print a custom arch for each foot, place each toe thong to fit between your toes and adjust each strap to fit your foot. These features, paired with the sandals' deep contoured heel cup and triple-density foam footbed, work together to stabilize the foot, absorb shock, and promote an aligned heel strike, and allowing you to move optimally from the ground up. The Sandals’ straps are also adjustable and interchangeable, so you can adjust strap tightness or color at any time.
“Our goal was to create a sandal with the convenience and style of a flip-flop, but with comfort and support you can wear all day long,” said Bellamy, “running the Boston Marathon is just an extreme example of our mission. Flip flops aren’t really meant for running!”
